You Didn't Get Mad

We had eight years of Bush and Cheney, Now you get mad!?

You didn't get mad when the Supreme Court stopped a legal recount and appointed a President.

You didn't get mad when Cheney allowed Energy company officials to dictate energy policy.

You didn't get mad when a covert CIA operative got outed.

You didn't get mad when the Patriot Act got passed.

You didn't get mad when we illegally invaded a country that posed no threat to us.

You didn't get mad when we spent over 600 billion(and counting) on said illegal war.

You didn't get mad when over 10 billion dollars just disappeared in Iraq.

You didn't get mad when you found out we were torturing people.

You didn't get mad when the government was illegally wiretapping Americans.

You didn't get mad when we didn't catch Bin Laden.

You didn't get mad when you saw the horrible conditions at Walter Reed.

You didn't get mad when we let a major US city, New Orleans, drown.

You didn't get mad when we gave a 900 billion tax break to the rich.

You didn't get mad when the deficit hit the trillion dollar mark.

You finally got mad when the government decided that people in America deserved the right to see a doctor if they are sick. Yes, illegal wars, lies, corruption, torture, stealing your tax dollars to make the rich richer, are all okay with you, but helping other Americans...oh hell no.

Finally tracked this down to the source; rosie.com. Altho, according to the Daily Kos it may not be original with Rosie.

I have one of my own: You didn't get mad when Diebold and his electronic voting machines fixed the election for Bush/Cheney in 2004!!

After Rep. Resigns In Sex Scandal, Georgia County Elects GOPer Who Had Affair With Mother-In-Law

I wonder why I haven't heard about this on the news. There was something on a blog about GA government(Capitol Impact) but nothing on the local evening news on the tube. I found this on TPM .

"Glenn Richardson, the family-values Republican who represented the county and was speaker of the house, stepped down after his ex-wife publicly accused him of having "a full-out affair" with a lobbyist while he was married.
So when Paulding County voters went to the polls for a special election Tuesday, they
selected ... another family-values conservative who had admitted to an extramarital affair"

When Richardson resigned, the media just said he resigned. They didn't say whether he just resigned as Speaker of the House or if he resigned as a representative. After he resigned, I didn't hear anymore about him and nothing about his replacement.

"His campaign Web site touts his conservative, pro-family bona fides. "I believe Paulding County wants someone who will stand strong for the conservative principles we've always believed in ... lower taxes, limited government, personal responsibility, and valuing Life from the womb until natural death," he says.
But, as the writer Tom Crawford of Capitol Impact noted this week, Stout "has been compelled to address a personal incident from 10 years ago: he had an affair with his first wife's mother while his first wife was pregnant with their daughter. Stout and his first wife subsequently divorced"

"He also said the relationship with his mother-in-law "was stopped short of 'sex'"

How in the Hell can you have an adulterous affair that stopped short of 'Sex'????

Be Afraid, Very Afraid

This was the reaction of one of my relatives and the reason I unfriended her on facebook!!!

Sometimes The Truth Is Funny

Luckovich in the AJC.

Funny how Romney has spent the last year saying how terrible the HCR bill is when it pretty well mirrors the plan he supported and signed in Taxachuesetts. Of course no member of the Republic Party can say anything good about anything put forward by Democrats even if it was their idea in the first place.

Just heard a good line on one of the cable news channels this morning. "Libertarians are Republicans that are embarrassed to call themselves Republicans." This strikes me as being very true. If the Libertarians were true libertarians they wouldn't always line up on the Right. They would take some from column 1 and some from column 2 and get egg roll. Instead they are constantly in the Right hand column.

Sometimes You Wonder

There are times when someone will say something or post a comment somewhere or send you an e-mail and you wonder How In The Fuck Can I Be Related To That Person????? The latest one happened after HCR passed in Congress and someone posted some Tea Bagger bullshit.
I can't understand why anyone would want to stick with the status quo. Do they really want to stay with denying people coverage because they got sick or were born with a condition?? How about kicking people off their insurance when they need it most because they got sick??? Keep the drug donut hole for seniors so they have to decide what bills to pay or take their drugs???? Kick the kids off the parents plan when they turn 18????
Do they really think that by allowing the insurance companies free rein that then they will out of the goodness of their hearts keep premiums low???? How Fucking Stupid are they???? Just like death and taxes, another constant is that the premiums will rise. Left unchecked the insurance companies will gouge the hell out of us. While I don't think this is a good health care bill, it is a start to control the insurance companies and the costs.
For all those that claim we should let the private market take care of health care, they have been running it since FOREVER and haven't fixed it yet. Insurance companies are the Fucking Problem, so how are they going to fix it?????

Pay No Attention To The Man Behind The Curtain

This is from Think Progress . A H/T to Wtf is it Now for the link.

Ari Fleischer quits PR job for Tiger Woods because his legacy was so bad it harmed Tiger’s rehabilitation.

Earlier this month, the New York Post reported that Tiger Woods had hired former Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer to help plot his strategy for returning to golf. Since his time as President Bush’s top spinmeister, Fleischer has become a consultant for the sports industry, advising Mark McGwire and the Green Bay Packers. Woods gave his first interviews since his scandals to the Golf Channel and ESPN yesterday, limiting the chats “to an almost impossible-to-maneuver five minutes.” Fleischer, however, wasn’t by Woods’ side during these interviews:

Meanwhile, former White House press secretary Ari Fleischer acknowledged in an e-mail to the AP that he had been working for Woods and had decided to withdraw.

The AP gives no reason for Fleischer’s departure, but FoxSports reports that Fleischer “fell on his sword because he felt he was becoming the story“: “Fleischer’s legacy, whether fairly or not, remains propagating Bush/Cheney myths — like Saddam Hussein attacked America on Sept. 11, 2001 — which Americans don’t want to hear. Having him in behind the curtain gave the impression Woods had something to hide, and that words were being fed to him.”

When I first heard of Ari Fleischer doing PR for Tiger, my first thought was how can Tiger be so stupid.

New Bumper Sticker For The Party Of No

Your morning jolt: DNC chair says ‘Bring back pre-existing conditions’ will make a ‘helluva bumper-sticker’
Or how about "Bring Back The Donut Hole For Seniors"????

This quote is from Political Insider in the AJC.

As Sanford Bishop considered how he would vote on the historic health care legislation Sunday night, the nine-term Democratic congressman turned to his faith.
“I asked myself, ‘What would Jesus do?’” Bishop said Monday afternoon. “I had to come to the conclusion we had the opportunity to get more than 32 million people health insurance. I don’t think he would leave them to fend for themselves.”
That is not the immediate reaction of Mike Keown. a South Georgia Republican and pastor who hopes to take Bishop’s job in November.
“My response when the vote came down was, ‘It’s on now,’” said Keown, pastor of Coolidge (Ga.) Memorial Baptist Church.
Keown, a South Georgia Republican state representative, plans to challenge Bishop for the Second Congressional district seat.

It must be the political party that changes the attitude of the person. The Democrat is for the average Joe while the member of the Republic Party is for the corporations and against the people. Now supposedly they both believe in the same Jesus and yet are 180 degrees out in their thinking. Now, where in the Republic version of the Holy Bible does it say, Reward the Rich and Punish the Poor?????

Just one of the many reasons I have no use for religions.

Healthcare As It Is Now!

Got this cartoon at cagle.com.

This does pretty well sum up the situation as it stands. Let's hope things improve in the future now that Health Care Reform (such as it is) has passed. Now they need to get to work on making it a better deal for the average person instead of the insurance companies.

Rush Is Thinking Of Moving Up When It Comes To Healthcare

Rush Limpass has promised to leave the country if Healthcare Reform passes and move to Costa Rica. That means he will go from 37 (USA) on the list to 36 (Costa Rica) on the WHO list of countries when ranked for Healthcare.
Rank Country
1 France
36 Costa Rica
37 United States of America
Didn't do the whole list in the interest of space.
Here is where we rank in % of GDP spending for Healthcare.
Total Expenditure on Health as % of GDP 2000-2005
Rank Location 2000 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005
1 Marshall Islands 22 19.1 18.4 16.3 13.2 15.4
2 United States of America 13.2 13.9 14.7 15.1 15.2 15.2
66 Costa Rica 6.5 7 7.3 7.3 6.7 7.1

What makes this even more amazing is when you consider the difference in GDPs of the two countries. We have states that have higher GDPs than Costa Rica.
Also, Costa Rica has the socialized medicine that Rush claims to hate, or is this another case of don't do as I do, do as I say.

All I can say is "PLEASE, PLEASE, RUSH, THIS TIME DO AS YOU PROMISE!!!!!

File Under DumbAss Puritans

A family in New Jersey make a copy of the statue Venus de Milo out of snow in their front yard after a snowfall. Someone complained anonymously(naturally, they don't have the nerve to complain face to face) and the cops told them to cover it up or knock it down, so they put on a bikini top and a wrap. (What the Fuck is this country coming to that allows police to abuse the public trust like this????) Personally I would have told the cops it was none of their business and go chase some crooks instead of harassing a homeowner over a snow woman. This is something that should have gone no farther than to be an amusing story to be laughed at by everyone at the cop shop, as in, "Do you know what some idiot called 911 and asked us to do??? They wanted us to go and harass someone over a snow woman in their yard!!

Spent half the morning trying to put up the video of this with no luck. Damn Puritans have infiltrated the intratubes. Several times when I tried to embed the video, my connection to the internet died and I had to sign in all over again, Sucks The Big One!! Here is a link to the video.

You Can't Make This Shit Up

A 45-year-old woman, charged with ending a domestic dispute by killing her 26-year-old husband of five days, is a registered lobbyist for a group fighting domestic violence.

Last week heard on the news that a woman shot her husband on the street in downtown Atlanta and then calmly walked away. Today I saw this article in the AJC.
Officials said Bridges claimed she was unemployed. But records show she is a lobbyist for an organization called the National Declaration for Domestic Violence Order; its Web site says the group is pushing legislation to create a database of those convicted of sex crimes or domestic abuse.
Will she be on the database now???

Static Straps

For the better part of the past decade I have been searching for a static strap. I last found some at a discount store on Cape Cod when I was working there in the late 90s. At the time I bought two and installed one on my car. Later I installed one on another car.

Static straps help prevent shocks when you get out of the car. I think I started looking for a replacement when the one on my car came off. It had a metal end that bolted to the frame and it rusted off. When I got my truck, I got more serious in my search because I had a serious problem with shocks when we lived in Omaha, but every time I asked for one at an auto parts store, either I got a ground strap that goes from the engine to the body or I got a look like I was speaking a foreign language. I was about to start asking in a foreign language(Finnish) when I finally found some that are readily available locally at a reasonable price. I had even asked at RV dealerships as I have seen them on motorhomes.

I had googled static straps and found some online in England, Australia, Hong Kong and the Philippines. Some come with little LED lights or cartoon characters on them. One that may have been in this country, but they wanted $20. Also found that Gates Rubber makes them but they come in lots of 25. Tried the auto parts store online sites, the ones closest to where I live first as I was thinking I'd get them at the store instead of ordering online. Then finally tried NAPA( they are further away and there aren't as many around so didn't think of them right away) and on their website they had them. Then called the local store, but they didn't have any in stock, had to order them from the warehouse. What's waiting a day or so when I have been searching for years??

They had two sizes(25 inches and 30 inches) and I got two of each, one for the car, one for the truck and replacements for both. They were $3.29 each.
As you can see it says Static Strap right on the label. It's a pain in the ass when you know something is made and doesn't cost a lot, but you can't find it even when you ask for assistance in getting it.

It took awhile to figure out where to attach it to the car, but here it is.
Another note about the car, it has a fly-by-wire throttle like Toyota's. Hopefully it won't be a problem as I haven't heard of any runaway Fords.
UPDATE: The Old Lady drove the car to work and had someone helpfully tell her there was something hanging down at the back of her car!!

Bibles-for-porn stunt draws crowd at UTSA

This story is from the San Antonio Express-News dated 03/03/2010.

By Melissa Ludwig - Express-News
Tired of that old Bible or Quran?
Members of the Atheist Agenda, a student organization at the University of Texas at San Antonio, are encouraging students to trade in religious texts for pornography this week with their “Smut for Smut” campaign.
In the view of club members, religious texts are as smutty as pornography because they contain violence and torture and spark religious wars. But mostly, it's a public relations stunt meant to ignite debate and attract new members to the club.
As in the past, this year's campaign did not disappoint, drawing hundreds to UTSA's Sombrilla Plaza on Monday to either cheer, protest or inquire about the event and to debate the role of religion in society.
“It's a First Amendment right,” said Bradley Lewis, 18, a freshman from Pear-land who said he plans to join the Atheist Agenda. “If religious groups can put out missionaries and go knock on my door and wake me up at 7 a.m. on a Saturday morning, I can put a table outside of the college.”
Robin Lorkovic, 18, a freshman from Houston, disagreed. Lorkovic stood near the “Smut for Smut” table holding a cardboard sign that said “God Loves You! Keep your Bible and learn from it!”
“I don't really feel like that is appropriate at all,” Lorkovic said. “I am a Christian. I believe in God's love, and I am here to stand my ground and stand up for what I believe in.”
The Atheist Agenda started at UTSA in 2005, and the group's first “Smut for Smut” campaign blew up into a national media sensation. Past President Thomas Jackson was deluged with interview requests, and he debated Tucker Carlson, the bow-tie-wearing conservative pundit, on MSNBC.
This year, organizers said a group of Christians amassed to protest the event, and one protester ripped a sign from someone's hands. But police kept a watchful gaze over students involved in heated debates and did not report any violence.
“This is ultimately why this is going on,” Lewis said. “It's an icebreaker to get people talking about these things.”

Some of the comments on this article were pretty good. Of course, there is also a lot of people condemning this as a foolish stunt and trying to defend their religion while consigning those that don't believe to hell for eternity.

Management Fees

Why is it that this commercial reminds me of the company sponsored IRAs and 401Ks that I had?? When I did work for a company that offered an IRA or 401K plan, the management fees by the broker (that word alone should explain it, they make you broker) would be more than the interest that my and my employer's contribution earned. Because I didn't work that long at these jobs (migrant aircraft mechanic) my funds (had an IRA and a 401K at different times) never built up to the point where the earnings were more than the management fees. Also I would keep track of how my fund was doing by looking at how the fund was doing by checking that mutual fund listings in paper in the business section. Even when the report from Wall Street said my fund was going up, when I got my earnings statement, more often than not, it was negative. The newspaper said it was going up while my statement said it was going down and on top of that I had to pay for them to lose money for me. Fuck, I could have done that by myself!!
