Aircraft Maintenance

Saw this on Twitter this morning with the comment: Always worrying when are duct taping the plane together :-s
The guy isn't using duct tape, aircraft mechanics call duct tape "200mph tape". What he is putting on the engine cowling is aluminum tape which is called "500mph tape"!!

Instead of worrying about the tape on the outside of the cowling, I'd like to know what is in the intake. Could it be his trash and he'll clean it out when he's done??

  1. The airline issued a statement that said basically what I said. That it isn't duct tape, it's speed tape and common practice. The thing I worry about with the airlines is the outsourcing of maintenance, like flying the plane half way around the world to get work done using cheap labor. Also "pencil whipping" instead of actually repairing problems.

  2. If you saw some of the WW-II aircraft used for freight hauls to the interior Alaskan villages you would come to believe that aircraft will fly forever except for human error.

  3. You have to very careful in buying an airplane from Alaska as you may not know where or what some of the parts came from. About the only thing that can compare to some Alaskan aircraft are some that were built by and/or for the CIA during Vietnam when it comes to not conforming to FAA rules and regulations!!
