If I Knew You Were Coming, I'd Have Baked a Cake

But nobody came so I baked a pie.
Homemade Apple Pie
It was a dreary day with rain off and on and there were several trees loaded with apples.

  1. Oh, man, that looks good. Pie like that is not a Ukrainian dish. I am afraid to try my hand at pie crust. In Canada I bought the frozen ones from Safeway.

  2. Pie crust can be tricky at times. I've found the trick is to keep things cold. Lately I keep the shortening in the frig 'cause it was looking weird after sitting on a shelf in the kitchen cabinet in Hot-Lanta. I use cold water(if I have a bottle of water in the frig, I use that) after cutting the shortening and flour together, then I put it in the frig for awhile while I get the filling ready. Forgot to put in the salt and it still tastes OK.
