Snow UP on the Tundra

Last weekend it snowed UP on the tundra and by the time it ended they had a foot of snow. These pictures are from about 30 years ago. Next to the pickup buried in the snowdrift is a '62 Mercury Meteor. The kids were able to walk on the snowdrift up on to the roof of the mobile home.

The dog in the picture is Banjo. She lived outside most of the time. The only time she wanted in

was during thunderstorms. Then she would come in and hide under the kid's bed. One time there was no room under the bed and she went under the couch. I had to lift the couch up so she could get out.

These pictures are typical of what it was like in the middle of Winter back then. This may be what we have to look forward to in the future. The Old Lady says that this is the only place we can afford to retire to. But, hey it's not that bad anymore thanks to global warming!!

The trailer is no longer there, I tore it down a couple of years ago. I may have to build the retirement bunker where it sat.

  3. Yellowdog, 38 degrees during winter and they start talking heat wave!!
Dave, you might be a Yooper if you shovel your driveway and find a couple of cars!! It helps to have a flag or ball on the antenna to spot where the car is!!

  4. Home sweet home! I've been here too long. I'm with YD/Granny. It's supposed to get down to 27 sometime this week, and I've been whining since I found out.

That's a snow flurry up there! I've been a life long troll, but I owned a cabin up there for years. A bunch of guys and I were deer hunting one year. That is, we intended to deer hunt. We got up there on the evening of Nov. 14th, drunk of course. I think that was obligatory with the season. We awoke hungover and early on the morning of the 15th - to 33" of snow and the wind blowing like mad. It took four of us to force the front door open (Drifted shut) enough so one skinny guy could get out and shovel it clear. That happened two days later after our hangovers became manageable. We all had 4WD's, and as soon as they plowed the road, we shoveled ourselves clear and got the hell out of there!:)

I used to have a herd of pekingese. One of them would leap for my arms at the first sound of thunder - whether I was ready for her or not!:)

  5. I'm sure that you can build something more comfy and easy to heat than a trailer, I know that I could.

Most of the time the heat lamp, computer, and the two small fridges keep this place warm.

And if it is over 40 degrees I often have to turn the heat lamp off.
