The Old Lady and I have a mixed marriage, she's an Atheist and I'm a Born-Again Agnostic. It seems like all the religions have a symbol, crosses, stars, crescents and purple moons (like a box of Lucky Charms) and even Atheists have the red letter "A" which I wrote about in a previous post. I haven't been able to find a symbol for Agnostics. I have a thought on what would be a suitable symbol. IMHO the symbol for Agnostics should be a large question mark?
Someone a lot smarter than me said that while it is impossible to prove there is a god, it is also impossible to prove there isn't. Religious people are sure there is a god and Atheists are just as sure there isn't. Me, I not sure, so I will continue to have my doubts.
In searching the intratubes, I have found there are quite a few different kinds of Agnostics including The Universal Church Triumphant of the Apathetic Agnostic whose motto is: "We don't know and we don't care".
The reason I say I'm a Born-Again Agnostic is because we are all born agnostic and have to be taught what to believe. For awhile I was taught to be a Lutheran, but later after learning more about religions in general and the Xian one in particular, I figured out that all of them are made up by men, some religions began thousands of years ago when superstitions abounded. After I learned the Xianist religion stole everything from others and used ancient holidays of Pagans and others for their own purposes to suck people into their particular cult, I decided I wanted no part of that and am therefore a Born-Again Agnostic!!
We don't know and we don't care?
ReplyDeleteI love that!
you mean I haven't brought you over to the side of the Goddess? She's going to bip you. i have a bumper sticker that says "born again pagan." and one that says "Your God gave birth to my Goddess."
ReplyDeletesurprisingly enough, only one person has said anything about them and then just to have me explain it to them...
I'm a Born-Again Agnostic.
ReplyDeleteLead, follow, or get the hell out of the way. And if you don't care, why blog about it at all?
"Lead, follow, or get the hell out of the way." That's what I say about the idiots on the road that don't know how to drive.
ReplyDeleteI didn't say I belonged to the group whose motto is "We don't know and we don't care". I'm like Groucho Marx in that any group that would have me as a member I don't want to join. Someone once said after I said that, that I must have a low opinion of myself. I said I have a high opinion of myself and a low opinion of other people especially those in groups.
I feel more at home with the Native Americans' Great Spirit than any of those desert tribal religions. God either lives in everything, or He does not.
ReplyDeleteThat said, I still try to be the kind of guy Jesus would share some of his home-made wine with.
I don't even bother to label myself. I don't believe in that God bullshit anymore than I do the Easter Bunny, but something more powerful than myself appears to be present in this world, and I leave it at that.
